PVC Development History
PVC was first discovered by the famous French scientist (Henri Victor Regnault) in 1835. Later in 1872, another German scientist (Eugen Baumann) also discovered this new material. At that time, the PVC material was a white solid, extremely fragile, and had no practical application. In the early 20th century, a group of chemists such as Russian chemists (Ivan Ostromislensky) and Fritz Klatte tried to change the fragility of PVC to make it a commercial product, but all failed.
Until 1926, Waldo Semon (BF Goodrich Company) in the United States synthesized PVC and applied for a patent in the United States. He solved the fragility of PVC by synthesizing a variety of additives, and increased the expandability of PVC material products so that it has The basis of product commercialization. In 1931, Germany began to produce PVC by the emulsion method, and in 1941, the United States began to produce PVC by the float method. As a result, PVC-related products began to be widely used in production and life applications. With the continuous development of science and technology, the current PVC production synthesis has been replaced by the bulk synthesis method, which makes it more efficient and the cost is greatly reduced.
In 1933, W.L.Simon proposed to use a high boiling point solvent and tricresol phosphate to heat and mix with PVC, which could be processed into soft polyvinyl chloride products, which made a real breakthrough in the practical use of PVC. In 1936, the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride and the processing application of PVC were developed. In order to simplify the production process and reduce energy consumption, the French Saint-Gobain company developed the bulk polymerization method in 1956.
